Asbury United Methodist Church

 This new group was formed by people interested in exploring the possibility of offering a contemporary service at Asbury—an additional worship opportunity to complement our traditional service.

SonRise Connection wants to solicit the congregation's input, and to give the congregation feedback. The group wants to include everyone in the progress and wishes especially to hear ideas about implementing a contemporary worship service alongside a tranditional service.

Background Information:

The first step was to visit other Methodist churches, to participate in their contemporary services and to learn about the experiences of other churches in expanding worhip opportunities. During the summer, the small group visited five churches and learned much about contemporary services. The group grew, from a half dozen interested people to some fifteen participants. At the end of the summer, the group took on a name and began talking and writing about its work.

The rationale behind SonRise Connection is that a contemporary service in addtion to the existing traditional service opens more worship oportunities. By providing more worship opportunities, we will be able to reach out to more of the community, bring people in, and touch more lives consistent with Asbury's mission.

SonRise Connection's goal is to offer both a traditional and contemporary worship. Although the goal is to reach out to more people, we want to maintain the strong sense of church family that exists now at Asbury. With God's guidance and with the help of our Asbury family, we want to move forward with this exciting opportunity.
